Abstract

Objective To analyze the etiological factors and characteristics in non-traumatic vitreous hemorrhage of children and to investigate the therapeutic efficacy of vitrectomy. Methods The etiological factors, operation measure and recovery rate of visual functions were retrospectively analyzed in a total of 16 patients(17 eyes)underwent vitrectomy with follow-up records from 2000 to 2003 in our hospital. Results Vitreous hemorrhage was found in 4 eyes of Coat's disease,5 eyes of congenital retinoschisis,3 eyes of retinal vasculitis and 3 eyes of uveitis. There were 14 eyes with increased visual acuity,1 eye with decreased visual acuity and 2 eyes with the same visual acuity after operation. Before operation, the visual acuity of 2 eyes was above 0.05,while the visual acuities of 13 eyes were above 0.05 after operation, showing significant difference compared with that before operation(P0.05).Conclusion Coat's disease, congenital retinoschisis, retina vasculitis and uveitis are the main etiological factors in non-traumatic vitreous hemorrhage.Vitrectomy is an effective treatment for non-traumatic vitreous hemorrhage in children.
