Nursing of patients with malignant pleural effusion treated by central venous catheter

Objective To summarize and analyze the effect of the central venous catheter in the treatment of the 78 cases of malignant pleural effusion and the nursing of thoracic chemotherapy. Methods Through subcutaneous catheterization by ultrasound location drain the effusion and inject the chemotherapy drugs into thoracis through the catheter. The sterilizing measures and nursing of the indwelling catheter were enforced. Results The 78 cases were all successfully catheterized. The period of indwelling was 5~21 days. No case was found with infection or other serious complications. Conclusion To catheterize the central venous catheter accurately, we need to enforce the aseptic technique strictly, observe the patients closely, and perform nursing carefully, which guarantee the success of the treatment.
