Abstract

On the basis of inheriting from the antecedent theories,ZHU Xi advanced his magnificent opinions on the hexagrams Qian and Kun from the perspective of Principle school. He pointed out that Qian and Kun means the principle of strength and docility which is the characteristics of heavenly Dao and also is the nature of human being and things so the Dao of strength and docility run through the heaven and human being. From the angle of the relationship between the principle and Qi (vital force) conceived in the creativity and motion of the heaven and human being,ZHU Xi thought that yuan heng li zhen is the specific representation and is the outline of the great Dao,showing the creative creativity principle in the cosmos. In ZHU's opinion, the relationship between yuan heng li zhen is in full accordance with Taiji Map,both of them not only express a theory of cosmos but also show a discussion of nature and disposition. ZHU Xi held that the Dao of Qian and Kun has a meaning of practice when being applied to the human life and the Dao is the basic practicing way to cultivate his moral and achieve his success. ZHU's realization of the strength and docility of Qian and Kun was expressed in the Sishu Zhangju Jizhu (Collected Annotation on the Chapter of the Four Books) and became an important content of his thought of principle learning.
