Abstract

[Objective] To study the clinical significance of CRP in acute exacerbations of hospitalized patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) before and after treatment. [Methods] The serum CRP levels, the improvement of pulmonary function (FEV1%) and the gross of white blood cell (WBC) were detected of 79 inpatients with acute exacerbations of COPD before and after 2 weeks treatment. [Results] Before treatment, the levels of serum CRP and WBC were significantly lower than that of normal subjects (P 0.01), but the object rate of CRP was significantly higher than that of WBC. In effect treatment group, both levels of CRP and WBC were significantly lower than that of before treatment (P 0.01), and the positive rate of CRP was significantly lower than that of WBC. In no-effect treatment group, the serum levels of CRP were no change, but WBC were significantly lower than that of before treatment, and the positive rate of CRP was significantly higher than that of WBC. [Conclusion] The serum CRP is an objective marker in estimating pulmonary infection in COPD patients with acute exacerbations and super than other makers such as WBC. It maybe an important useful sign to judge therapeutic effect of acute exacerbations COPD.
