The author uses two works by Jia Pingwa,namely The Ugly Stone and One Shellfish to go deep into Mr.Jia's sense of inferiority and his actions to transcend it.The two works portrays how Mr.Jia overcomes his inferiority complex which originates from his physical disadvantages and social status and finally becomes mature and successful.The Ugly Stone mentality,as an unconscious cultural psychology,goes through Mr.Jia Pingwa's literary life.
