Abstract
Objective To explore the diagnostic value of ultrasonography in carpal tunnel syndrome and cubital tunnel syndrome. Methods Eighty healthy subjects as control group,27 patients with suspected carpal tunnel syndrome and 32 patients with suspected cubital tunnel syndrome were enrolled in this study.Their anteroposterior diameters, transverse diameters and cross sectional areas(CSA)of median nerves and ulnar nerves were measured by ultrasound. Then the motor nerve conduction velocity was measured. Results The anteroposterior diameters, transverse diameters and CSA of median nerves and ulnar nerves in carpal tunnel syndrome group and cubital tunnel syndrome group were more than those in control group(P0.01).There was negative correlation between the CSA of affection nerve in carpal tunnel syndrome group and cubital tunnel syndrome group and motor nerve conduction velocity(r=-0.76,-0.80,respectively).Conclusion Ultrasound can provide more imaging information in diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome and cubital tunnel syndrome, and it has important value for treatment and therapeutic effect evaluation.
