Abstract
Magnetorheological fluid (MRF) is a kind of novel material. It belongs to a controllable fluid and can be changed from Newtonian fluid to viscoelastic fluid by applying magnetic field. This change is successive, reversible and rapid. The auto damper made of MRF has the features of simple, small size, low consumption power, and adjustable successively. Rheological properties of MRF shock absorber have been proposed using non Newtonian fluid model and Bingham plastic model. Automotive MRF shock absorber based on flow mode has been designed, some mechanical properties have been analyzed by ANSYS and compared with testing results. The results show that vehicle MRF shock absorber allows damping force adjustable continuously, improves riding harshness, and is very effective in isolating the vibration of vehicle suspensions.
