Study on Preoperative Anxiety and Coping Style for Patients with Gastric Carcinoma

Objective To probe into preoperative anxiety and coping style for patients with gastric carcinoma and to provide theoretical basis for mental nursing.Methods A self-designed questionnaire,Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS) and Trait Coping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ) were applied for 232 patients in four Class Ⅲ Grade Ⅰ comprehensive hospitals in Anhui province.Results The score of preoperative anxiety in patients with gastric carcinoma was(44.81±8.55),which was evidently higher than that of domestic norm of(37.23±12.59)(P0.01) and its incidence rate came to 33.2%.The gender difference was of statistical significance(P0.01).In the aspect of coping styles,the score of active coping was(34.42±8.14),and that of negative coping was(29.66±8.20),which were obviously correlated with the preoperative anxiety(P0.01).There was negative correlation between preoperative anxiety and active coping style(r=-0.51) while positive correlation between that and negative coping style(r=0.31).Conclusion The incidence rate of preoperative anxiety in gastric carcinoma patients is high.There are many factors that influence it such as gender and coping style.
