Analysis on the change of medical work load of Shanghai hospitals during year 1999-2002

[Objective] To offer reference basis for health department and hospital administrators to define the functions of the medical organizations of various levels, to deepen the reform of the hospitals and quicken the development of the health sector. [Methods] By retrospective investigation the change of medical work load of Shanghai hospitals from year 1990-2002 was analysed. [Results] It indicated that medical work load of hospitals of this city has increased steadily since middle period of the 1990s. The medical insurance policy influenced the medical work load of the hospitals remarkably. The change of framework of medical service system has greatly influenced the patient's mode of seeking medical service. [Conclusion] We must further perfect the basic medical insurance system of the urban workers, deepen the comprehensive reform of the hospital and accelerate structuring new-type medical service system.
