Comparison of enalapril and nitrendipine versus nitrendipine alone in the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of nitrendipine alone with combination of enalapril in the treatment of essential hypertension . Methods A total of 120 patients with essential hypertension were randomly divided into two group. 60 Patients of control group were treated with nitrendipine; 60 patients of treatment group were treated with nitrendipine add enalapril . All patients received the above therapy for 12 weeks . The blood pressure , heart rate, ECG , blood and urinary lab tests were comparable for the two treatment groups . Results The effective rate was 95% in the treatment group and 71.6% in the control group after 12 weeks (P0.05). No adverse reaction was observed in the treatment group . Conclusion Treatments with nitrendipine plus enalapril is more efficient than nitrendipine alone , as well as lower side effects in essential hypertension patients .
