Abstract
In the large-scale water transfer projects, hollow pier with complex structure and large upper load is widely used,so the stress state of the structure should be analyzed. The finite element method is adopted to calculate the stress of pier cap, pier and pile caps. The outcomes show that hollow pier with less material and reasonable stress distribution is able to pass the upper load to the basis of structure evenly. There are great stress under the supports of pier cap and greater tensile stress at the top of pier cap between the two middle supports.Much attention must be paid to the structure design. The supports at pier cap and pile cap with big stress concentration should be appropriate to punching calculation and structural strengthen design to prevent structural punching damage.
