Abstract

【Objective】 To study the expression of EMS1 protein in esophagus squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) and its clinical significance.【Methods】 The expression of EMS1 protein was detected in 74 surgical specimens of ESCC using an immunohistochemistry SP method. The correlations of the expression with clinicopathological parameters of ESCC were analyzed.【Results】 The positive EMS1 staining was located in cytoplasm and cell membrane. The positive rate of EMS1 expression was significantly higher in the ESCC tissues than that in the normal esophageal squamous tissues(74.3% vs 31.1%,P 0.01).The EMS1 protein expression significantly correlated with the TNM stages and lymph node metastasis in ESCC(P 0.01),whereas had no correlations with sex, age, tumor differentiation level, and diameter(P 0.05).【Conclusion】 The results suggested that the overexpression of EMS1 protein plays important roles in the progression of ESCC.EMS1 protein is a valuable marker to predict the biological behavior, metastasis status, and prognosis in ESCC.
