Abstract
The author maintains that China's movie creation in the past two decades has defected in a too personal and formalistic mode precipitated by the avant-garde movies of the West. While leading China's movies onto a pluralistic path, this mode has divorced the movie industry from its audiences and what lies behind is the loss of the rational orientation in artistic creation. Therefore, to do justice to China's movie industry, measures ought to be taken to bring back the conventional narrative techniques.
