A Re-analysis of the Inscriptions of Sui Ding Ke in Li's Bronze Container

There are four main interpretations about the bronze inscriptions sui ding ke(岁鼎克),none of which is acceptable.It is not sound to interpret sui(岁)either as Jupiter,or a sacrifice name,or robbing the nine tripods.Sui(岁)is the given name of the official historian Li and Li(利)is his style name.The original meaning of the word sui(岁)is a cutter such as an axe or a sickle,and that of the word li(利)is sharpness,so the two words relate to each other in meaning.The inscription records the historic event that Li was rewarded by the King Wu of Zhou for his accurate prediction,and a bronze container was made to commemorate his glory.
