Analysis of changes of pulse wave velocity in patients with metabolic syndrome and influence factors

Objective To explore the changes of pulse wave velocity(PWV) in patients with metabolic syndrome(MS) and its influence factors.Methods 128 patients with MS were enrolled: included 74 patients with hypertention,54 patients without hypertension and 76 normal adults also were selected.All cases were measured brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity and ankle-brachial index by using an automatic device and collected arteriosclerosis related indexes.The data were analyzed by statistical package.Results The PWV in MS patients was significantly higher than those in normal people,and the PWV in MS patients with hypertension was significantly higher than that without hypertension.There was positive relation of PWV with age,waist circumference,heart rate,systolic pressure,diastolic pressure,pulse pressure,fasting plasma glucose and ABI,and there was negative relation of PWV with HDL.Age,systolic pressure and heart rate were closely related to PWV.Conclusion The PWV in MS Patients gathering many risk factors is significantly higher than that in normal people.The age,systolic pressure and heart rate are important risk factors for artery elasticity.
