Treatment of complex renal calculi by percutaneous nephrolithotomy using the EMS fourth generation pneumatic lithotripsy combined with and ultrasound lithotripsy

Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical effect of the EMS fourth generation pneumatic lithotripsy combined with ultrasound lithotripsy in percutaneous renal to treat complex renal calculi. Methods Eighty patients with complex renal calculi were included, including 33 patients with staghorn stones, 30 patients with multiple stones and17 patients with infective stones. The renal calculi size ranged from 1.8~6.0 cm. Results All operations were successful. The average operation time was 120 min, the intraoperative average blood loss was 50 ml, and the average length of hospital stay was 9 days. The results of operation were satisfactory. Conclusion The EMS fourth generation pneumatic lithotripsy combined with ultrasound lithotripsy has advantages of less bleeding, higher efficiency and fewer complications in treatment for complex renal calculi. Therefore it is the safe and effective method for the treatment of complex renal calculi.
