Abstract
Objective: To investigate the surgical treatment options and postoperative complications of cavernous sinus tumor. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 23 cases of cavernous sinus tumours operated at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University between 2009 and 2010 is presented.Patients were 13 male and 10 female of aged 20~65 years. Results: All cases were accepted for microsurgical resection of tumor in which 16 patients underwent total resection(69.6%) and 7 patients underwent subtotal resection(30.4%).The result of treatment was good and no patient died.New-onset postoperative cranial nerve damage occurred in 7 cases(30.4%),including oculomotor nerve damage in 2 cases(8.7%),trigeminal nerve damage in 2 cases(8.7%),and abducens nerve damage in 3 cases(13.0%).No tumor recurrence was seen after follow up. Conclusion: A reasonable treatment options and good micro-surgical skills can significantly improve the prognosis and greatly reduce postoperative complications.
