Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the application value of high frequency ultrasonography in the diagnosis of carotid atherosclerotic plaque in aged patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods:Carotid artery ultrasonography in 111 aged patients with diabetes were compared with that of 97 normal controls. Results:The intima-media thickness(IMT) and the incidence rate of the atherosclerotic plaques in the diabetic group was higher than that of the control group(P0.05).There were no statistical difference in the echo and site of the plaques between diabetes and control group(P0.05).Conclusion:The main lesion of carotid artery in aged diabetic patients was thickened IMT and carotid atherosclerotic plaques.Color Doppler ultrasonography can show the size and site and echo of the plaques, so it is important to early prevention and treatment for the complicaiton in diabetic patients.
