Abstract
Objective:To evaluate the diagnostic value of high frequency ultrasonic detection in carotid artery intima-media thickness (IMT) and atherosclerosis. Methods:Carotid artery IMT and atherosclerotic plaques in 58 cases of coronary heart disease (4 cases with brain infarction) and 30 cases with normal physical examination were examined using high frequency ultrasound, and atherosclerotic plaques were analyzed quantitatively. Results:Carotid artery IMT in myocardial ischemid group was(0.94±0.13) mm and (1.14±0.15) mm in myocardial infarction group;both were significantly thicker than those of the control group(0.67±0.12) mm (P0.01). Atherosclerotic plaques were detected in both coronary heart disease group but the severity differed. There were also 3 cases of grade I atherosclerotic plaques detected in the control group. Conclusion:Detection of Carotid IMT and atherosclerotic plaques using high frequency ultrasound helps detect pathological changes of arteries timely and prevent myocardial and brain.infartions. This method is valuable in clinical application.
