Status and Prospects of Urban Landscape Plants' Application in Beijing

With the speeding up of Beijing urbanization process, the pressure on resources and environment are increasing and the green demand is also rising. Based on the opportunity of the greening census of Beijing in 2010, the plants used in Beijing urban landscape were statistically analyzed and studied in this paper, including plant species composition, plant origin, application frequency, plant amount and the application status of different landscape plants. And the problems in landscape plants' application in Beijing were pointed out as following: Firstly, garden plants are relatively abundant but few species of the plants can be applied in large scale. Secondly, the proportion of native plants' application is not high. Thirdly, the ratio of tree, shrub and perennial is imbalance, and plants configuration lacks diversity. Fourthly the selection of landscape plants lacks scientific reference standards and basis. Fifthly landscape plant seedlings' reserves are not reasonable. Targeting to the problems, opportunities and challenges existing in Beijing urban greening, the authors make their own opinions in order to provide guidance for future development.
