Abstract

Purpose To evaluate the efficacy and security of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide(IVTA)in the treatment of macular edema secondary to maeular branch retinal vein occlusion(MBRVO).Methods IVTA was per- formed in 51 eyes of 51 patients with macular edema secondary to MBRVO determined by fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA)and optic coherence tomography(OCT).The best-corrected visual acuity(BCVA),FFA,the macular thickness under OCT and the possible complications were recorded and analyzed. Results After IVTA treatment, the BCVA in all causes was either improved or kept stable with the average retinal thickness significantly decreased eompared with that pre- treatment(P0.01).Fluorescein leakage reduced significantly 6 months after treatmeut in 44 eyes(86.3%),with other 7 eyes(13.3%)remained unehanged.Eight eyes(16.4%)of all 51 eyes had high i ntraoeular pressure(IOP)tempo- rarily.Three eyes(5.9%)developed dense cataracts. There were no other complications. Conclusions IVTA might he a safe and effective method for the treatment of macular edema secondary to MBRVO.(Chin J Ophthalmol and Otorhino- laryngol,2007,7:311-312)
