Abstract
The whole process of Brazilian blackout on November 10, 2009 is introduced and analyzed, including the accident happening, its development, and the breakdown of the power system. It is pointed out that magnetic ring grid consisting of southern Brazil transmission grid and AC transmission lines of Itaipu power plant made a physical basis for the accident expanding. The lessons from this blackout should be learned by China Southern Power Grid (CSG) in consideration of its network structure and its three defense lines.
