Abstract

Modern vernacular Chinese has been formed for 90 years.This paper is set to discuss the role of translation in the formation of modern vernacular Chinese.Translation not only helps the construction of sentence patterns,grammar, and vocabulary of modern vernacular Chinese but also provides models for modern vernacular Chinese as a literary language using in poetry and other literary genres.The adoption of modern vernacular Chinese in all of the literary genres is one of the keys to the construction of modern Chinese literature.Though translation is very significant to the formation of modern vernacular Chinese,it has also left some side effects on modern vernacular Chinese.
