Abstract

Objective The use and addiction of internet by university students,and to provide the basis for rational use of internet and treatment of internet addiction by university students.Method 393 students from Guangdong Baiyun University were investigated in terms of internet use and internet addiction.Results 52.9% of students spent more than 2 hours online per day on average.The top 3 activities on line are chatting,searching for information and listening to music.The proportion of those reaching the diagnostic criteria for internet addiction is 4.1 percent,the proportion of those tending to be internet addicted accounted for 8.6%.Boys are more than girls with internet addiction,(P0.01).Conclusion University students with tendency of internet addiction or in addiction are of great number,it is advisable that joint efforts be made by university students,school,family and community sto address the internet addiction problem.
