Abstract

Meanings of Shuhua and Zihua were different in historical periods of calligraphy books,and they were standing for calligraphy in the description of Song Dynasty calligraphy books and the periods before Song.The meaning of Hua is the writing style which was the intention to drawing or writing.The concept formed because of the calligraphy and drawing's identity and homology,and this usage has been extended to the Song Dynasty.With highly developed combination of painting and calligraphy,calligraphy and painting homology of literati painting in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the usage of Shuhua and Zihua had been forgotten.
