Effect of losartan on antihypertensive and left ventricular mass index and diastolic function of patients with mild-and moderate-essential hypertension

Objective To observe the effect of losartan on antihypertensive and left ventricular mass index and diastolic function of patients with mild- and middle-essential hypertension.Methods Sixty-four patients with mild- or moderate-essential hypertension received losartan 50～100 mg per day for six months.The changes of blood pressure and left ventricular function were observed.Results After treatment,the blood pressure,left ventricular mass index and left ventricular diastolic diameter have obviously been decreased;total effective rate of decreasing of blood pressure was 78.1% (50/64),the average systolic and diastolic pressures decreased by 25.1mmHg and 15mmHg,respectively.Conclusion Losartan is not only effective,safe and mild in treatment of patients with mild-and middle-essential hypertension,but also in reversion of the left ventricular hypertrophy and in improvement of the left ventricular diastolic function.
