Abstract

Objective To evaluate the effect of psychological intervention on the quality of life in esophageal cancer patients with radiotherapy. Methods One hundred esophageal cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy were divided into two groups. The patients in the control group received routine psychological nursing, while the patients in the experimental group received psychological intervention by trained nurses. The patients' quality of life was measured by the EORTC Core Quality of Life questionnaire(EORTC QLQ-C30) one week before radiotherapy and two months after radiotherapy. Results There was no significant difference in the quality of life between the two groups one week before radiotherapy(P0.05).Two months after radiotherapy, the function subscale score and overall health status in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P0.01);the symptom subscale score and item scores of fatigue, insomnia and loss of appetite in the experimental group were significantly lower than those in the control group(P0.01).Conclusion Psychological intervention can effectively improve the quality of life and relieve negative emotions in esophageal cancer patients with radiotherapy.
