Abstract
Objective: To study the protective effect of nimodipine on acute cerebral ischemia injury. Methods: Rats after cerebral middle artery occlussion was divided into three groups: bogus operated groups, ischemia groups and nimodipin protective groups, and the phos-pholipase A2 (PLA2) activity, cytosolic free Ca2+ concentrations, brain water contents and the expression of sPLA2-IIA mRNA and the cPLA2-IV mRNA in cerebral cortex were examined. Results: The PLA2 activity, cytosolic free Ca2+ concentrations in neuronal cells, and brain water contents were progressively decreased, but the expression of sPLA2-IIA mRNA and the cPLA2-IV mRNA in cerebral cortex was not progressively decreased after used nimodipine. Concision: The protective effect of nimodipine has been found in refraining PLA2 activity and lowering cytosolic free Ca2+ concentrations on acute cerebral ischemia injury and easing final pathologic changes of brain water contents.
