Abstract

Objective To study the effects of one-(OLV) or two-lung ventilation(TLV) with same tidal volume(VT) on patients undergoing esophageal surgery.Methods Fourty patients with esophageal cancer were randomly divided into two groups of O and T with 20 cases each.VT was 5-6 ml/kg in both groups during operation.Blood samples were taken for gas analysis and detection of malondialdehyde(MDA),superoxide dismutase(SOD) and interleukin-6(IL-6) after intubation(T1),at 45 min(T2) and 120 min(T3) during surgery and 2 h after operation(T4).Results The duration and bleeding of surgery were greater in group T than those in group O(P0.05).The peak airway pressure(Ppeak) and airway resistance(Raw) were higher in group O than those in group T(P0.05).MDA was higher and SOD was lower in group T than those in group O at T2 and T3(P0.05).IL-6 of group T was higher at T2-T4 than that at T1 and in group O(P0.05).ConclusionCompared with TLV,OLV with same VT has less lung injury although it increases Ppeak and Raw.
