Abstract
Objective:To investigate the efficacy and safety of sparfloxacin in treatment of patients with infections like respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and digestive tract infections compared with ofloxacin. Methods: In this multicentre, randomized and comparative study was completed in 7 hospitals in Shanghai, sparfloxacin was administered orally 200 mg once daily for up to 7 14 days to treat 110 patients with infections(test group), and ofloxacin was administered orally 200 mg 2 3 times daily for up to 7 14 days to treat 110 patients with infections(control group). Results: In the test group and control group, the overall efficacy were 91.8% and 82.7%,the clinical curative rates were 63.3% and 56.4%,the eradication rates were 94.3% and 88.7%, and the side effect rates were 2.7% and 1.8%, respectively( P 0.05). There were no statistical difference between the 2 groups when the clinical efficacy and the clinical curative rates were compared in treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections and digestive tract infections. Conclusion: The efficacy and safety of sparfloxacin are similar to that of ofloxacin in treatment of infectious diseases, and sparfloxacin should be recomanded in clinical because of its facility of administration.
