Abstract

Objective To study tap water supply system situation in rural areas so as to find how to speed up development of tap water supply system in rural areas. Methods All tap water facilities at township or village level were investigated comprehensively. The data were analyzed. Results There were 229 tap water supply systems at township or village level, which benefited 1 466 590 persons, accounted for 33.92% of population.Water source included:underground water, lake reservoir,river,spring.38.14% water plants had complete water purification process,50.23% water plants had incomplete water purification process,11.63% water plants did not make water purification.77.29% water plants supplied less than 500 000 kg water per day. 31.88% water plants belonged to individual,26.64% water plants were incorporated company,27.51% water plants belonged to community,13.97% belonged to country.21.40% water plants were built before 1990,78.60% water plants were built after 1990.Only 23.58% water plants had detection condition of water quality. Conclusions Tap water supply system in rural areas of Chaohu city developing rapidly. But the supply was smaller and water management was not standard.Development of tap water supply system should be speeded up and supervision should be reinforced.
