Abstract
Objective: To study the relationship between the P 16 pr ote in expression and pathological types, recurrence and nerve invasion of human salivary adenoid cystic carcinoma, and t o provide clinical data for tumor treatment and prognosis judgement. Methods: By immunohistochemical SP staining method, P 16 protein expression was detected in 36 cases of ACC. The patien t s were followed-up as long as 10 years. Results: The P 16 pro te in expression rate in adenoid cystic carcinoma tissue were 33.33%. The P 1 6 protein expression rate in solid type was significantly lower than that in c ribriform and tubular types(P0.01,P0.05). No correlation was found b etween P 16 protein expression in the carcinoma with and without nerve invasion ( P0.05 ). The P 16 protein expression rate in recurrance carcimoma was lower than that in primary carcinoma (P0.05). Conclusion: The mutation and deletion of P 16 gene and corresponding alteration of P 16 protein ex p ression were related to pathological types, grades and differentiation degree of carcino ma. The detection of P 16 protein could be used to evaluate adenoid cystic carcinoma malignant degree and patient's prognosis.
