Abstract
OBJECTIVE:To explore the safety and curative effect of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) in the treatment of portal vein tumor thrombosis. METHODS: Forty-two patients with primary liver cancer complicated with embolization in portal vein were treated by HIFU (type FFP-BY01). RESULTS: After HIFU, the tumor thrombus disappeared in 13 patients(31%). The tumor thrombus became smaller in 14 patients (33. 3%). It had no change in 15 patients (35. 7%). No serious complications were seen,such as burn of skin, bleeding, gastrointestinal perforation. CONCLUSION: The use of HIFU in the treatment of portal vein tumor thrombosis is feasible and safe. This technique may offer a noninvasive therapy in the treatment of portal vein tumor thrombosis.
