Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant activities of different position and different solvent extracts from Hibiscus hamabo Sieb. et Zucc. in vitro. Methods: Using ultrasound-assisted extraction method, the N-hexane, dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts of Hibiscus hamabo roots, stems and leaves were obtained. The total phenolic content of various extracts were detected with Folin-Ciocalteu assay. The antioxidant activity of various extracts in vitro were evaluated by 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH·) system, hydroxyl radical (·OH) system and superoxide anion free base (O2-·) system. Results: The antioxidant activities of methanol and dichloromethane extracts of roots, methanol extracts of leaves and ethyl acetate extracts of stems are stronger. The total phenolic content to reach 55.02, 62.02 43.34, 62.47 mg/g respectively. Conclusion: The leave, roots and stems of Hibiscus hamabo Sieb. et Zucc. can be used as natural antioxidant resources with a good development and utilization value.
