Abstract

Purpose To observe the changes in hemorheology in sudden deafness and to elucidate the signifi- cance of microcirculatory impairment in the etiology of the disease. Methods Seventy-six cases with sudden deafness and 168 normal cases as control group were included in this study. All the cases in the two groups were respectively divided into male and female;old-,middle-and young-aged subgroups.Examination of hemorheology was performed and the in- dexes were compared between the corresponding subgroups. Results There were significant elevation of blood viscosity (high, middle shearate),blood plasma viscosity and hematocrit of the old-aged deafness sudden deafness group, blood plasma viscosity of the middle-aged group, and blood viscosity of the female deafness group(high shearate)compared with the corresponding control group. Conclusion The etiology of the old aged sudden deafness(especially the females) is connected with microcirculation impairment.(Chin J Ophthalmol and Otorhinolaryngol,2007,7:238-239)
