Abstract
The two great masterpieces,A DREAM OF THE RED MANSION and THE SCARLET LETTER,appeared in two different countries and both employed the technique of image.This article compares the red images in the two novels to explore their different cultural and ideological background.It adopts the method of cultural semiotics and focuses on the imagism within the two novels.
