Abstract

Objective To study the protective effect of compound tablet of Propolis on liver injury indnced by CCL4 and its mechanism. Method The model of subacute chemical liver injury induced by CCL4 was established in rats. Forty rats were divided into 4 groups, high dose group (orally given 1.44g/kg compound tablet of propolis daily for 12 days),low dose group (0.27g/kg),control group and normal group (without liver injury). By the end of the experiment, the serum biochemical indicators related the hepatic function, hepatic histopathological analysis, and antiperoxidative effect of lipid were investigated. Results The serum ALT, AST and ALP activities, and TBA content in the high dose group were significantly lower than that of the control group( P 0.01). The hepatic pathological injury was significant abated compared with the control group. The MDA. level was significantly lower and the SOD and GSH-PX activity in the livers of highdose significantly higher than that in the livers of the control group. Conclusion Compound tablet of Propolis posses protective effects on the liver injury induced by CCL4, and its mechanisms may be related to scavenging free radical and inhibiting lipid peroxidation by compound tablet of Propolis.
