Abstract

Objective To study the effect of Somatostatin (SS) on liver regeneration after 70% hepatectomy. [WT5”HZ]Methods [WT5”BZ]Sixty SD rats were randomly divided into the control group and SS group, and treated with 0.9% saline solution and SS respectively after 70% hepatectomy.Six rats from each group were killed at 6,24,48,72,96 hours postoperatively.Liver regeneration was evaluated on the parameters as follows:① remnant liver weight;② proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) labeling index;③ PCNA positive area which was measured by image quantitative analysis.[WT5”HZ] Results[WT5”BZ] Compared with the control group, the remnant liver weight of the SS group was significantly lower at 48,72,96 hours (P0.05), and PCNA labeling index and PCNA positive area were markedly reduced at 24,48,72 hours (P0.05),with the greatest degree of reduction at 24,48 hours (P0.01). [WT5”HZ]Conclusion[WT5”BZ] Somatostatin can intensely suppress liver regeneration, and the degree of suppression is proportionate to the rate of hepatocellular regenerative response.
