Effect of Essential Rhizoma Chuanxiong-Radix Paeoniae Alba on Level of Nitric Oxide and Calcium Ion in Uterine Tissue of Mice

Abstract

Objective To assess the effect of Rhizoma Chuanxiong and Radix Paeoniae Alba and the drug-pairs on primary dysmenorrhea and its mechanism.Methods Oxytocin and estrogen were employed to construct animal model of primary dysmenorrhea.The twisting times of mice in 40 min was measured,and the levels of nitric oxide and calcium ion in uterine tissue of mice were determined.Results Administration of Rhizoma Chuanxiong and Radix Paeoniae Alba and the drug-pairs obviously reduced the twisting times induced by oxytocin compared with negative control(P0.05).Rhizoma Chuanxiong and Radix Paeoniae Alba and the drug-pairs could increase nitric oxide concentration(P0.05) and obviously reduce calcium ion concentration in uterine tissue of mice(P0.01).Conclusion Rhizoma Chuanxiong and Radix Paeoniae Alba and the drug-pairs have certain pharmacological effects on primary dysmenorrhea and the mechanisms may be related with the increase of nitric oxide level and reduce of calcium ion concentration in uterine tissue of mice.
