Abstract

Objective:To assess the concentration of hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) in the aqueous humor at different periods of experimental rabbit glaucoma Methods:Glaucoma was induced in the right eye of 20 adult rabbits with injection of 1% methylcellulose into anterior chamber once a week The intraocular pressure was kept at 30~ 40mmHg Concentrations of HGF in aqueous humor were measured at 0,1,2,4,8 week of glaucoma induced, using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) methods Results:Before glaucoma induced, the concentrations of HGF of aqueous humor were (321 3±75 7)pg/ml and (319 2±85 2)pg/ml,respectively in experimental and control eyes The concentrations of HGF of aqueous humor at 1,2,4,8 week of induced glaucoma were (540 3±83 2)pg/ml,(549 8±102 4)pg/ml,(562 0±98 6)pg/ml and (604 0±92 6)pg/ml respectively, significantly higher than that of the control eye( P 0 01) No statistical significances of concentrations of HGF of aqueous humor were found between different periods glaucoma Conclusions:The concentrations of HGF of aqueous humor in experimental glaucoma are high and may indicate a response to injury The higher concentrations of HGF may play an importmant role to outflow of aqueous humor and the repair of the injured trabecular meshwork cells
