Analysis of Relationship between Fluvial Process and Bank Caving in the Jingjiang Reach of Yangtze River

The Jingjiang reach is located in the middle the Yangtze River.After the foundation of new China,with the continuous bank protection construction,the anti-scouring ability of riverbank has been strengthened,and then the lateral bed deformation has been controlled.However,channel regime has changed to a certain degree in some localities of the reach and there were great variations of lateral profiles at some sections,with frequent bank caving.This paper summarized the characteristics of recent fluvial process in the Jingjiang Reach,analyzed the relationship between fluvial process and bank caving with the observed data.The results show that the mainstream line changes and river channel erosion may induce bank caving,at the same time the lack of effective control of bank caving will affect the development of river regime.
