Abstract

Objective To explore the cholestasis in neonates with milk jaundice or pathologic jaundice. Methods Automatic biochemical analyzer of enzymogram was used to detect the levels of total bile acid (TBA) of 30 cases in the contrast group,of 28 cases in the group of milk jaundice,of 88 cases in the group of pathologic jaundice including 30 cases of premature birth,30 cases of perinatal factors and 28 cases of infectious factors. Results The level (±s,μmol/L)of TBA in the contrast group was 9.30±4.79,significantly different from those in the group of milk jaundice (17.72±10.68),the pathologic group (27.71±13.23),the perinatal group(33.66±17.60) and the infectious group(40.64±25.56)(P0.01,P0.01).There existed no statistical significance among the levels of TBA in the subdivided groups of different factors in the pathologic group(P 0.05) ,but the average level of the infectious group was the highest, that of the group of premature birth was the lowest and that of the perinatal group was between those in the above two groups. The average level of the group of milk jaundice was found to be lower than all those in pathologic group and there existed significant difference (P0.01).Conclusion Cholestasis existed in both neonates with pathologic jaundice and neonates with milk jaundice. The levels of infectious group are the highest and those of the group of milk jaundice are the lowest. The levels of TBA in the blood serum can be sued to diagnose the cholestasis more accurately than bilirubin assay.
