Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and prognostic evaluation in patients with elderly advanced gastric cancer. Methods Sixty patients of elderly advanced gastric cancer were selected as the study group, and 32 healthy individuals were enrolled as the control group. Immunohistochemical study was performed in the two groups to investigate the expression of VEGF and microvessel density (MVD). The relationship between the levels of VEGF and MVD and prognosis was analyzed. Results The positive rates of VEGF and MVD were much higher in the study group than the control group (P0.01); There was statistically significant difference in the expression of MVD and VEGF in different TNM stages and lymphatic metastasis (P0.05). The three-year survival rate and five-year survival rate were significantly lower in patients with positive expression of VEGF than patients with negative expression of VEGF. Conclusion The expression of VEGF is closely associated with angiogenesis, tumor growth and tumor metastasis. VEGF can be the prognostic discriminators in prostate cancer.
