Abstract
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the expression of 14-3-3σ protein and its significance in cervical carcinoma. METHODS: The 14-3-3σ protein expression was examined in 20 normal cervical and 80 cervical carcinoma tissues by the immunohistochemical ABC method. RESULTS: The positive rate of 14-3-3σ protein expression in normal cervical tissues was 15%, and that in cervical carcinoma was 56.25%. A significant difference was found between the two groups, P0.05. In the poorly differentiated cancer cells, advanced clinical stage and the patients with lymph node metastasis, the positive rate of 14-3-3σ protein expression was high, and vise versa. CONCLUSIONS: The expression of 14-3-3σ protein is correlated with the differentiation degree of cancer cells, clinical stage and lymph node metastasis. It may play a role in cervical squamous cell carcinoma. 14-3-3σ protein expression may be valuable to assess the development and prognosis of the patients with cervical carcinoma.
