Abstract

Objective: To study the effect of early use of enteral nutrition after operation on esophageal cancer patients. Methods: 186 cases of esophageal cancer were divided into two groups, early enteral nutrition(EEN) group,94 cases, and parenteral nutrition(PN) group,92 cases.Complications, general recovery and blood biochemical criteria after operation were compared between the two groups. Results: The incidence of complications in EEN group was significantly lower than that in PN group(P0.05),and the occurrence of diarrhea was higher in EEN group(P0.05).The incidence of anastomotic fistula was not significantly different(P0.05).The times needed for recovery of bowel sounds, anal exsufflation, defecation and hospital stay were shorter in EEN group than those in PN group(P0.05).The values of albumin, prealbumin and total protein were significantly higher in EEN group(P0.05).Conclusion: Early use of enteral nutrition after operation in esophageal cancer patients is safe, effective and practical.
