Abstract

William Faulkner's work A Rose for Emily is one of the best short stories in the twentieth century.This paper aims at interpreting the story with the technique of defamiliarization,produced by Russian Formalism,in the light of its structure,plot and language.It holds that in A Rose for Emily,Faulkner deforms his way of constructing the story,presenting the plot and handling the language to heighten the aesthetic value of the novel.The employment of the technique of defamiliarization mainly leads to its great success.
