Prognostic significance of microvessel density and VEGF expression in osteosarcoma

Abstract

AIM: To evaluate the prognostic significance ofmicrovessel density (MVD) and the expression of endothelialgrowth factor (VEGF) in osteosarcoma. METHODS= Theclinicopathologic in formation of sixty-nine cases of osteosar-coma was studied retrospectively. By using anti-VEGF(JH12l) and CD34 mAb, the expressions of VEGF and MVDof these cases were investigated by immunohistochemicalstaining respectively. The above data, together with thethe patients were analyzed statistically. RESULTS: The ex-pression of VEGF was correlated with MVD (P O. O5).MVD and VEGF expression as well as the tumor size, micro-scopic margin and Enneking surgical staging were correlatedwith the patients' prognosis (P O. O5 ). CONCLUSION:MVD and VEGF expression are useful prognostic indicatorsin osteosarcoma.
