Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of Valsartan and Felodipin treating the Chinese patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. Methods Patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension [sitting diastolic blood pressure (SiDBP) of 90 ~109 mm Hg,systolic blood pressure (SiSBR) of 140 ~179 mm Hg] (n =132) were selected and devided into two groups by double-blind randomized study,Every group has 66 patients. The patients of treatment group were treated with Valsartan 80 mg/d and control group with Felodipin 5 mg/d for comparison of efficacy. All of the patients were treated for 6 weeks.Blood Pressure was examined before the treatment and at the end of 2、4、6、8 weeks. Results At the end of 8 weeks,no statistical difference was found in the antihypertensive effect between the two drugs (P0.05).SiSBP/SiDBP in the treatment group were reduced by (32.8 ±11.0/13.0±6.4) mm Hg by Valsartan and SiSBP/SiDBP in control group were lowered by (29.3 ±8.6/11.8 ±7.9) mm Hg by Felodipin. Conclusion Valsartan and Feloeipin were effective and well tolerated in Chinese patients with grade Ⅰ、Ⅱ essential hypertension with little side effect.Valsartan is a satisfactory drug in the treatment of hypertension.
