Abstract

At present IP protocol is changing from Ipv4 to Ipv6. That needs networking technology at Gbps or Tbps ,where IP router will be used not only to interconnect backbone segments but also to act as point of attachment to high performance wide area links . In this paper, the progress of IP router and outline practical structure of each generation router are discribed. Finally the problems to focus attention on IP router design are discussed.
