Abstract

Diaries,travel notes,investigation reports of Western missionaries,explorers,doctors and travelers in late Qing Dynasty help restore social life and scenery of ancient Xi'an city in late Qing Dynasty.Xi'an city in late Qing Dynasty,as described by Westerners,has great city wall,large population,many immigrants and nationalities,and neatly arranged streets.As the commercial center of northwestern China and the pivot of Asian trade routes,Xi'an is a city with prosperous trade.Studies on the relevant English documents help not only restore scenery of Xi'an in late Qing Dynasty but also understand Westerners' comments on Xi'an city in late 19 th century and early 20 th century.
